Navy SEAL Dies During Training Dive

A tragic story out of Florida last week, as news of the death of a Navy SEAL struck the tight-knit operator community.

A U.S. Navy SEAL died Tuesday while undergoing dive training in waters off Key West.

Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Ronald Tyler Woodle, 26, of Waynesville, N.C., died around 9 a.m.

"He was fairly shallow, above 30 feet down," said Chief Petty Officer Stan Travioli, spokesman for the Naval Special Warfare Group. "Investigation is still in the process. They're doing a very, very in-depth autopsy and it'll take several weeks to get the results."

Woodle was based at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story in Hampton Roads, Va. Since October, he was undergoing intensive training with his teammates in preparation for their next deployment overseas.

He was reported missing by his dive buddy shortly before 9 a.m. An immediate search was conducted and Woodle was recovered within minutes. He was unconscious and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was initiated, but he was pronounced dead at Lower Keys Medical Center.
